Waiting on Wednesday #21

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

When We WakeWhen We Wake
by Karen Healey
Release Date: 5th March 2013
By: Little Brown Books for Young Readers

My name is Tegan Oglietti, and on the last day of my first lifetime, I was so, so happy.

Sixteen-year-old Tegan is just like every other girl living in 2027 - she's happiest when playing the guitar, she's falling in love for the first time, and she's joining her friends to protest the wrongs of the world: environmental collapse, social discrimination, and political injustice.

But on what should have been the best day of Tegan's life, she dies - and wakes up a hundred years in the future, locked in a government facility with no idea what happened.

Tegan is the first government guinea pig to be cryonically frozen and successfully revived, which makes her an instant celebrity - even though all she wants to do is try to rebuild some semblance of a normal life. But the future isn't all she hoped it would be, and when appalling secrets come to light, Tegan must make a choice: Does she keep her head down and survive, or fight for a better future?

Award-winning author Karen Healey has created a haunting, cautionary tale of an inspiring protagonist living in a not-so-distant future that could easily be our own.

This one sounds really interesting and not too far fetched. I'm really looking forward to reading about her life in the future.

What are you waiting on this Wednesday?

This book reminds me of Beta by Rachel Cohn just because of the font... or maybe the cover model to. It looks interesting, definitely looking forward for this book!

  4. It sounds... heavy, like there is much that would confuse you just as it's confusing Tegan. Not so sure if this wouldn't end in a disaster... but it's definitively interesting, so I agree it's something to look forward to. Nice choice! My WoW this week

I read the summary for this book a few days ago and I think it sounds pretty darn good! I'm so not a fan of close up face covers thoughs. There have been so many recently...whats up with this trend!? :)

I read one of Karen Healey's other books and thought it was okay so I'll probably wait to see what people - like you :) - think of this one before picking it up. Lol, it sounds like such a mixture of sci-fi and dystopian, two genres I'm still not exactly comfortable with.
