The Summoning is the first in a trilogy called Darkest Powers. Chloe can see ghosts. She hasnt seen anything for many years, and then suddenly, the day she gets her period, she can seen them again. She is chased through school by a ghostly custodian and freaks out. She is subdued and sent to a group home where she is put on medication and told she is a schizophrenic. She meets Liz, Derek, Simon, Rae and Tori at the home. Derek tells her she is a necromancer, someone who can control the dead. Liz believes she has a poltergeist and after she is sent to the mental home when her bedroom is destroyed, Chloe believes she may be next. It becomes apparent that they all have supernatural powers and they cant help but wonder if it is a coincidence that they all ended up in the same group home. Derek and Simons dad is missing and Simon wants to go looking for him. Chloe, Derek, Simon and Rae escape from the home and are chased by the staff. They split up and Chloe and Rae, not knowing what has happened to the boys, head back to get help from Chloes Aunt Lauren.
This is an interesting story which I quite enjoyed but I felt that it took a long time to take off. The first half was very slow moving but I am glad I persevered with it because I totally enjoyed the second half.
I would recommend this book for anyone who likes YA paranormal/science fiction books.
