Interview and Giveaway: Edie Claire

Thursday 1 March 2012.

Hi guys. Today I'd like to welcome to my blog, author Edie Claire, to discuss her first YA novel, Wraith

Edie is a veterinarian, a childbirth educator, and a mother of three who delights in writing cozy mysteries, classic romantic suspense novels, comedic stage plays, and most recently, her YA ghost story, Wraith.

So, lets get started.

What inspired you to write Wraith? It's different from what you've written previously?
It started as a vague idea for a ghost story, because I really love ghost stories. (One of my previous romantic suspense novels, Long Time Coming, was about a woman returning to her hometown to encounter the ghost of her best friend, who had died when they were teenagers). But it wasn't until my first trip to Hawaii that the story idea became real to me. I was sitting on the beach, watching those beautiful, monstrous, dangerous waves, and all of a sudden it hit me. My ghost was a surfer! And furthermore, he was a teenager. Once I realized the characters were teenagers, the book had to be YA.

Can you sum up Wraith in 10 words?
Probably not. How about: "Falling in love with someone you can't touch totally sucks!"

Kali and Zane are both really likeable characters. Were they based on anyone you know or completely fictional?
They are completely fictional, except that an author always puts a bit of herself into every character, and I also put a bit of my husband into every hero. Mainly, they share our senses of humor and fun. But my husband can't surf, and I am the worst dancer ever!

If Wraith was made into a movie, who would you like to see play Kali and Zane?
Be still my heart. Wouldn't a movie be fabulous? I wonder if they'd let me on set...
Anyway, I'm not qualified to answer this question, but my seventeen-year-old daughter recommends Mila Kunis and Alex Pettyfer. Her BFF disagrees, she recommends Saoirse Ronan and Hunter Parrish.

You're a veterinarian, a childbirth educator and a mom of 3, where do you find time to write lol?
When the kids are in school, and there are no babies coming! Seriously, I can only write part time. But I try to make every quiet minute alone at the computer count.

Quick Questions
Favourite Book?  Watership Down
Favourite Author?  Catherine Cookson or Barbara Michaels
Tea or Coffee?  Tea
Winter or Summer?  Fall!
And finally,
Would you like to be able to see dead people?
Well, maybe... but only if I saw real things that happened in the past, like Kali does. And only if I could also turn it OFF when I wanted to!
